🚨 Spotted WAG-12B at Palakkad Junction – Got a Headlight Salute from the Crew! 🇮🇳🚂
Caught something rare and special on 16th June 2025 at Palakkad Junction (Platform 2) – the incredible WAG-12B locomotive in action! Even better, the young loco pilots gave us a headlight salute — and yes, we got it on video! 🎥🔥

🛠️ What makes the WAG-12B so special?
It’s India’s most powerful electric freight locomotive, with a massive 12,000 horsepower, built under the Make in India initiative by Alstom at the Madhepura factory in Bihar.

Designed to haul heavy freight trains at higher speeds with better energy efficiency.

It’s a twin-section, six-axle (Co-Co + Co-Co) configuration, perfect for high-traction, long-haul operations.

Primarily runs on the Dedicated Freight Corridors (DFCs), so seeing it at Palakkad (Southern Railway) is quite rare for this part of India!

💡 What’s a “headlight salute”?
For those unfamiliar — a headlight salute is when loco pilots flash the locomotive’s headlights briefly as a friendly gesture.
🚨 To the average viewer, it may look like just lights blinking… but for us railfans, it’s a deeply respectful nod of acknowledgment from the crew.
👏 It’s a silent way of saying “we see you, fellow train lover” — and many loco pilots enjoy making that connection too. It’s mutual appreciation on the rails.
