A freshly painted Indian Railways WAP-4 locomotive (No. 22298), built by Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW) in 1999 and now 26 years old, resting at Palakkad Junction. This veteran loco, homed at Erode shed, hauls the Palakkad–Chennai Express, reaching Palakkad daily at 8:30 AM and resting until 3:30 PM.
Railfans suggest this idle time could be used to run a passenger service between Palakkad and Pollachi, stopping at all village stations to benefit local commuters.
