Welcome to Malayampallam, a picturesque village near Kollengode in Palakkad, Kerala, famed among rail enthusiasts for its unique railfanning experiences. The Malayampallam Railroad Crossing offers a captivating blend of rural tranquility and the excitement of watching trains closely.

Situated on the scenic Palakkad–Pollachi railway line, this broad gauge electrified single-track railway was built during the 1890s and began operations in 1900. This historic track gracefully winds through lush greenery and serene villages on the eastern side of Palakkad district, offering breathtaking views and a soothing natural atmosphere.

Indian Railways operates approximately 31,846 railway level crossings nationwide. Of these, 18,316 crossings are manned by dedicated gatekeepers, ensuring safety through meticulous processes, while the remaining 13,530 are unmanned. Malayampallam Railroad Crossing is one such essential point on the Palakkad-Pollachi rail route that features attentive manual operations ensuring road and rail safety.

The journey begins with scenic visuals of the “Vandi Thavalam to Kollengode” road intersecting the Palakkad to Pollachi railway track.

Following a call from the station master, the attentive gateman activates the siren and manually closes the gates. Carefully, he inserts a special key into the mechanical locking system, securing the gates firmly.

The atmosphere fills with anticipation as villagers and travelers pause, patiently waiting.

The gateman meticulously ensures everything is secure, standing ready with his red and green flags.

Signals turn green, indicating the imminent arrival of the majestic Chennai Central–Palakkad Junction Express, hauled by a powerful WAP-4 electric locomotive from Erode Electric Loco Shed.

The thrilling moment arrives as the express train rushes past, captivating onlookers with its speed, power, and presence.

Once the train safely crosses, the diligent gateman retrieves the keys, unlocks the gates, and reopens them, allowing vehicles—mostly motorcycles—to resume their journeys freely.
